Shakib Al Hasan’s unparalleled exploits over the years have earned him the moniker “Record Al Hasan” from his fans. And rightly so as Shakib holds more records than any other cricketer in Bangladesh’s history. But this time, his name will be synonymous with a record that no player would wish for — most ducks in T20s by a Bangladeshi player.

Yes, the country’s greatest cricketer now holds the dubious distinction of having the most zero-run dismissals in T20 cricket among Bangladeshi players.

Shakib reached the unwanted milestone during the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he was dismissed for a duck in both of his appearances with the bat for Lahore Qalanders. He came in late in both innings and was dismissed trying to score quickly, but the scorecard only remembers the big round O.

In his return to cricket after nearly six months, Shakib was dismissed on the first ball May 18, equalling the previous record. On Friday, in the second qualifier match, he was out for a duck again, this time after facing two balls, to make the record entirely his own.

With this, Shakib has now been dismissed for a duck 32 times in T20s. The previous record, held by Soumya Sarkar, stood at 31.

Of course, Shakib has played far more innings — 410, the most by a Bangladeshi players — while Soumya has batted in 232 innings.

At 38, Shakib is older than the 32-year-old Soumya, whose career still has time. Perhaps one day, Soumya might reclaim this dubious honour.

Among Bangladeshi batsmen, Imrul Kayes has 22 ducks, Tamim Iqbal 20, and Mushfiqur Rahim 19.

Internationally, the record for most ducks in recognised T20 cricket belongs to Sunil Narine, who has been dismissed for a duck 48 times. Another top spinner, Rashid Khan, follows closely with 45.

Next on the list is Alex Hales with 44 ducks, while Rilee Rossouw has 35. Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, and Paul Stirling have all been dismissed for zero 33 times.
