Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan endured another frustrating outing in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), as his side Antigua & Barbuda Falcons secured a six-wicket victory over Barbados Royals at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Sunday.
Opting to field first after winning the toss, Antigua restricted Barbados to 151 for six in their 20 overs. Quinton de Kock and skipper Rovman Powell carried the batting effort after opener Brandon King (3) departed early. De Kock struck 57 off 45 balls, while Powell remained unbeaten with a blistering 24-ball 51, laced with three fours and five sixes. For Antigua, Jayden Seales and Obed McCoy claimed two wickets each.
In reply, Antigua faced early setbacks as Rahkeem Cornwall (10) fell cheaply and fellow opener Jewel Andrew managed 28 off 25 deliveries. The chase, however, was anchored by USA batter Karima Gore, who produced a match-winning knock. Gore remained unbeaten on 64 from 53 balls, hitting four sixes and four fours, and decisively shifted momentum in the 18th over by smashing back-to-back sixes off Eathan Bosch. Fabian Allen’s cameo of 11 off 6 balls, including a six in the final over, sealed the win with two balls to spare. Gore was named Player of the Match.
Shakib, however, could not make an impact with either bat or ball. Introduced in the 15th over, he bowled just one over, conceding 14 runs with a four and a six, and was not used again.
With the bat, he scored 13 runs from 13 deliveries, surviving an early chance before eventually lofting Mujeeb Ur Rahman to long-on.
This comes after another underwhelming display in Antigua’s first match against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, where he scored 16 off 11 balls and bowled one wicketless over for six runs.
