The Detective Branch (DB) of police has prepared a charge sheet accusing eight individuals in connection with the murder of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Shammo at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Several senior officials of the DB at Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed that “drug dealer” Rabbi, alias Kabutar Rabbi, is among the accused. The charge sheet will be submitted to the court within the next few days, they said.

Shammo was a student of the 2018–19 academic year at the Institute of Education and Research and served as the publicity secretary of the Chhatra Dal’s AF Rahman Hall unit. He was stabbed at Suhrawardy Udyan on 13 May and was declared dead after being taken to Dhaka Medical College.

Shariful Islam, Shammo’s brother, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the murder on May 14, a day after the incident.
