Shariatpur deputy commissioner (DC) Mohammad Ashraf Uddin has been made an officer on special duty (OSD), following the circulation of a controversial video involving him on social media.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Saturday (June 21), he has been transferred and posted to the Ministry of Public Administration as an officer on special duty (deputy secretary).

The move comes after a video surfaced online showing the DC in an intimate setting with a woman, sparking widespread criticism and backlash across the Shariatpur district.

Since the video went viral, Ashraf Uddin has reportedly been absent from his workplace.

According to the district administration, Ashraf Uddin took charge as the DC of Shariatpur on 2 November 2024.

He is an officer from the Administration cadre of the 27th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

A similar incident occurred in 2019 when a video involving the then DC of Jamalpur, Ahmed Kabir, and a female office assistant went viral.

He later faced disciplinary action following recommendations from a departmental investigation committee.
