The Dhaka University administration has expressed apology over the incident of the late-night attempt to erase Sheikh Hasina’s graffiti on a Metrorail pillar in the TSC area, calling it an “unintentional mistake” by the proctorial team.

This apology was conveyed in a press release on Sunday.

According to the release, “We inform you with great apology that on the late night of December 28, an attempt was made to erase the graffiti of Sheikh Mujib and the autocratic Sheikh Hasina on two Metrorail pillars behind the Raju sculpture of Dhaka University. These two graffiti represent revolution, resistance and the destruction of fascism in the July movement.

“It is our responsibility to keep this memory fresh and spread it to future generations. This is an unintentional mistake of the proctorial team. For this, we sincerely apologize. We promise to be more careful in this regard in the future.”

It also said that the graffiti that was erased last night was painted by the students in a very short time in the presence of the proctorial team. The university authorities will recognize this pillar as an official hate pillar. The university administration will take responsibility for preserving this angst of the students and the public against fascism for generations to come.
