After a-18-day closure, movement of short-distance trains resumed on Thursday (August 1).
Centering the Quota Reform Movement, the operation of passenger and goods-laden trains was suspended on July 18.
The commuter and local train services from several big cities, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi and Khulna, to neighbouring short-distance areas resumed on Thursday.
On Thursday (August 1) morning, the Dewanganj commuter train left for Jamalpur at 7am and the Turag left for Joydebpur at 7:20am.
But the number of passengers on the trains was comparatively low, said Kamalapur Railway Station Master Md Anwar Hossain.
According to Bangladesh Railway’s decision, short distance trains will run while the curfew is relaxed.
As many as 12 local trains will run in the railway’s western region’s Khulna-Ishwardi, Rajbari-Rahanpur, Khulna-Benapole, Benapole-Mongla, Rajbari-Bhanga and Rajbari-Bhatiapara routes on Thursday.
