For the longest time, Mizanur Rahman Aryan’s drama “Boro Chele”, released eight years ago and starring Ziaul Faruq Apurba and Mehazabien Chowdhury, held the record as the most-viewed Bangladeshi drama on YouTube. The drama has garnered 54,188,000 views to date, making it a benchmark in the local entertainment scene.
However, this week, “Shoshur Barite Eid”, featuring Niloy Alamgir and Jannatul Sumaiya Heme, surpassed “Boro Chele” in terms of viewership. the Eid-centric drama has amassed 54,458,000 views on YouTube.
In “Boro Chele”, Apurba played Rashed, the eldest son of a middle-class family. His father, a school teacher, eventually retires, leaving Rashed to shoulder the family’s financial responsibilities.
Mehazabien portrayed Riya, a wealthy girl who finds herself unable to justify not marrying, despite mounting familial pressure. Rashed, meanwhile, fails to secure employment despite numerous attempts. Eventually, the couple is forced to make a difficult decision, defeated by harsh realities.
On the other hand, “Shoshur Barite Eid” revolves around a series of events unfolding during Eid at the in-laws’ house.
Though the groom had been distant following marriage, his arrival during Eid leads to unexpected circumstances. The drama’s comedic tone carries a subtle message, which many believe is the key reason behind its popularity.
The cast of the drama also includes Tariq Anam Khan and Saberi Alam, among others.
