Two children went missing while bathing in the Kumar River in Madaripur.

The incident took place in the Tarmugaria area of ​​Madaripur Sadar Upazila on Wednesday (February 5) afternoon.

The missing persons are Kulsum Akhter, 11, daughter of Liton Matobbar, and her younger brother Minhaj, 7. They used to study at a local madrasa.

Quoting the family, fire service office sources said that, Liton Matobbar along with his family has been living in a rented house in the Tarmugaria area of ​​the town.

On the fateful day, Liton Matobbar went to his trade centre to buy and sell scrap metals like previous days. Siblings’ mother was busy with home works. The siblings took this opportunity to bathe in the nearby Kumar River after returning from the madrasa. At one stage, the two went missing while taking bath at around 1:00 pm. Later, a diving team from the Fire Service went to rescue them.

Mother Minu Begum said, they went to bath without informing her.

Madaripur Fire Service official Liakat Hossain said, “The diving team went to rescue the siblings after receiving news of their disappearance. But, they are yet to be rescued by the divers.”
