Popular singer and television show producer Hassan Abidur Reja Jewel’s health condition recently took a turn for the worse. He has been put on a ventilator in a private hospital in the capital city. Jewel’s wife, presenter and newsreader Sangeeta Ahmed said yesterday that Jewel’s physical condition is improving. The rate of blood infection in his body has decreased. The level of platelets in the blood which has decreased, is also increasing as compared to before.

The singer has been battling cancer for 13 years now. Despite receiving treatment at various hospitals in Bangladesh and abroad, his condition has deteriorated.

Sangeeta Ahmed said, “Doctors have said that if the level of blood infection decreases and the blood platelet level continues to increase, the doctors may turn off his life support. If the physical condition continues to improve, he will be able to breathe normally.”

Earlier, Sangeeta Ahmed, announced on Thursday that Jewel’s health worsened, and he was admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka. Since Tuesday night, he has been placed on life support.

Family sources disclosed that Jewel was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2011. The cancer later spread to his lungs and bones. Since then, he has been undergoing treatment at various hospitals both home and abroad.
