Sirajganj BNP warns action against vandalism, looting

Delight precession held in town

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Sirajganj District Unit on Tuesday urged its activists and supporters not to vandalize and ransack the assets of people. The party leaders also warned its activists and supporters to face legal action, if someone of them engages in vandalism or ransacking of people’s assets.

“Don’t harm to anyone due to previous political enmity or any other intension. None would be spared, if he or she involves with any kind of offensive activity like attacking and looting in the name of joy or elation,” said Saidur Rahman Bachhu, Secretary General of BNP’s Sirajganj District Unit through a loudspeaker.

He made the warning after joining a delight procession that brought out in Sirajganj town at around 12:00pm on Tuesday.

Several hundreds of BNP leaders and activists from different parts of the town took part in the delight procession that marched the main streets in the town after beginning from in front of Jama’at office.

Saidur Rahman Bachhu said, “If anyone engages in vandalism at houses, shops or religious places of worship, legal action would be taken against him or her.”

“We don’t want to take revenge against the repression of Awami League government and their men. We want to live together in this country with harmony and peace. If possible, please stand by the people during their needs. But, don’t destroy assets of people anyhow,” he urged to all of the party men.

He also requested the local traders and shopkeepers to keep open their business establishments to facilitate the local residents.

District BNP Vice-President Mojibur Rahman Lebu, Makbul Hossain Chowdhury, Shri Amar Krishna Das, Kh M Rakibul Hasan Ratan, Matiar Rahman Akand, Matiar Rahman Sarkar, Joint Secretary Noor Kayum Sabuz, Harun Or Rashid Khan Hasan, Liakat Ali Khan, Sabbir Hossain Bhuiyan Shafi, Milon Islam Khan, Organizing Secretary Mirza Mostafa Zaman, Alamgir Alam, Office Secretary Tanvir Mahmud Palash, Assistant Office Secretary Sheikh Md Enamul Haque, Assistant Publicity Secretary Rezaul Karim Khan, Information and Research affairs Assistant Secretary M Dulal Uddin Ahmed, Sadar Upazila BNP President Sarkar Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, its General Secretary Advocate Nazmul Islam, town BNP President Jahangir Hossain Bhuiyan Salim, General Secretary Munsi Zaheed Alam, Jubo Dal President Mirza Abdul Jabbar Babu, General Secretary Muraduzzaman Murad, District Mohila Dal President Sabina Yasmin Hasi, General Secretary Elema Begum , District Sechchhasebok Dal President Anwar Hossain Rajesh, its General Secretary Abdullah Al Qayes, District Chhatra Dal President Zunayed Hossain Sabuz and its General Secretary Sirazul Islam Siraj among others participated in the delight procession.

On the other hand, panic was also prevailing across the town despite assurance of laying peace and harmony by the BNP leaders and activists. Many panic stricken people did not come to streets sans emergency. Government offices carried out activities amidst tight security provided by the Army personnel. Banks, schools and other important installations were also open. However, the attendance was very thin as the panic of attack or further untoward incident has not yet been removed from the mine of people, many of them said.
