At last, the much awaited plot allocation programme for ‘BSCIC Industrial Park’ in Sirajganj was inaugurated on Wednesday, in which some 72 individuals were formally provided with the papers of allocated plots.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam attended the plot allocation programme as chief guest.

The inaugural function was held at the A.K. Shamsuddin Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office with Jafar Bayezid, Regional Director of the BSCIC’s Rajshahi Regional Office in the chair.

Ganapati Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) attended there as special guest.

Mahbubul Islam, Assistant General Manager of BSCIC’s Sirajganj District Office gave the address of welcome. Sirajganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Saidur Rahman Bacchu and Sirajganj district BNP unit Vice-President Alhaz Abdul Quader Sheikh also spoke among others.

In his welcome speech, Mahbubul Islam said, the primary goal of setting up the Sirajganj BSCIC Industrial Park was to strengthen the economy of North Bengal through industrialization. He also mentioned that reducing unemployment, improving infrastructures, and creating an industrial environment were the other key objectives.

There was a plan to allocate some 829 plots at the park while all of which have been prepared. Both the local and foreign entrepreneurs have been allotted plots.

Regarding the obligations of the plot receivers, Md Sajidul Islam, Head of BSCIC Industrial Park, said that BSCIC started its journey way back in 1957 while it has some 83 industrial estates across the country, among which Sirajganj is one of the notable ones.

If down payments and service charges are not paid on time, approved layouts are not followed, factories remain closed for more than five years, or plots are used for residential purposes, then the allocation may be suspended. Additionally, setting up mobile towers is prohibited while violation of this will result in cancellation of the plot allocation.

Sirajganj Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nazrul Islam said, “Although Sirajganj is close to Dhaka, but there has been no such industrialization here whereas neighboring Bogura has developed significantly. This is BSCIC’s largest park here in Sirajganj,”

“It is expected that once this industrial park becomes operational, it will create employments for around 100,000 people,” he added.

He said most of the entrepreneurs are the residents of this district while Sirajganj is also now suitable for an industrial park with good connectivity via rail, road, and river routes. “We urge those who have received plot allocations to start their operations quickly.”

Regional Director of BSCIC Jafar Bayezid said, “Today is a day of joy for us. We’ve been waiting for this for a long time overcoming many challenges. We believe this dream will become a reality through our collective efforts. We’re ready to provide full cooperation. BSCIC contributes 11 percent to the country’s GDP.”

It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Industries has taken the initiative to implement this project on some 400 acres of land at Chatiantoli and Pashchim Mohanpur of Soydabad Union, as well as Bonbariya, Belutia, and Morgram mouzas of Kalia Haripur Union under Sirajganj Sadar Upazila, located on the western side of the Jamuna Bridge. The project is estimated to cost Tk 719.21 crore.
