Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Sirajganj arrested five members of a dacoit gang after conducting drives at separate places in connection with a case filed for committing dacoity at a battery melting factory in Tarash.
The arrested are Wasim Polan, 23, Jahidul Islam, 25, Yakub Shah, 24, Shamim Hossain, 34 and Labu Pramanik, 40.
On the basis of the arrested confessional statements, police also seized a covered-van, three Chinese axes and mobile phones used during the dacoity.
Of the arrested, two were picked up from Gazipur and three others from Sirajganj district. Efforts to nab the rest others are underway, said, Ekramul Hossain, Officer in Charge of DB police in Sirajganj.
A gang of Dacoits numbering 25 to 30 entered into the battery melting factory in Tarash at the night of March 13 last and looted various valuable goods and battery producing and melting materials estimated worth about Tk 39 lakh. A case was also lodged with Tarash police station in this connection.
Being directed by Police Super Md. Faruk Hossain, DB police led by Ziaur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) conducted the drives and arrested the accused about a month later of the occurrence. They were sent to Jail after producing them before a court in Sirajganj on Tuesday noon.
