Sirajganj youth gets life term in drug case

A court in Sirajganj on Tuesday sentenced a youth to life term imprisonment in a case filed for possessing drugs including heroin and wine.

The court also fined him at Tk 10,000, in default; he will have to serve three more months in Jail. Besides it, he was sentenced to six more months imprisonment on section 36(1) and 24 (Ka) and fined at Tk 1000. In default, he will have to serve one more month in Jail.

Kaniz Fatema, Judge of Additional Sessions and District Judge Court in Sirajganj hanged down the verdict, said Golam Sarowar, Additional Public Prosecutor of the court confirmed the matter to the journalists.

The convicted is Wahid Ali Nabin, son of late Sayeed Ali Bablu of Mohisalbari village in Rajshahi district.

The prosecution brief revealed that, acting on a tip off, a team of police conducted a drive at Kaddar Morh area on the western side of Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge on August 28 in 2022 and tried to intercept a private car. But, the car managed to escape the scene violating signal of police. After a chase, police was able to catch the car near Miabari area and conducted a search into the car. Then police recovered 1.45kg of heroin and a liter of liquor. During the drive, police arrested Nabin in this connection.

Later, Ibrahim, the then Sub Inspector of Sirajganj Sadar police station filed a case with the police station.
