A court in Sirajganj on Tuesday sentenced six persons to death in a case filed for kidnapping and killing a vegetable trader.
The court also fined Tk 10,000 each, in default; they will have to suffer one month in Jail.
M Ali Ahmed, Senior District and Sessions Judge of the elite Court handed down the verdict in absence of the accused.
Those, who were awarded with the death penalty, are: Kwaza Mian, son of Haydar Ali and Bosunia Bosu of Pardhundia village, Enamul Haque, son of late Moyez Uddin of Harinathpur Bisnupukur village, Mozahid Hossain, son of late Mozibor Sheikh of Dargapara village, Saidul Islam of Madardaho Purbapara village and Molon Sarker, son of Nazrul Islam Sarker of Ramnagor Hatbari village in Gaibandha district.
According to the prosecutors, the deceased Nazmul Islam used to sell vegetable at different warehouses in Dhaka’s Baipail area after purchasing from Naogaon’s Chakgouri market.
On the fateful day on July 10, 2017, the victim started for Dhaka’s Baipail to sell his goods with a truck from Chakgouri market and was kidnapped by the accused, while he reached to Chandra area of Gazipur district at around 1:00am.
Later, the kidnappers demanded Tk 50,000 as ransom from his wife Rabeya Khatun over a cell phone.
As she refused to pay the demanded money, the miscreants kept him (Nazmul) confined for a certain time. Later, they killed him and left his body at Hatikumrul area nearby Ruposhi Bangla restaurant under Solongga thana in Sirajganj district, which was recovered by police on August 12.
Nazmul’s father filed a case with the respective police station in this connection.
After an investigation, Investigation Officer (IO) of the case submitted a charge sheet to the court.
Advocate Md. Abul Kalam Azad appeared at the court on behalf of the accused, while Advocate Md. Abdur Razzaq Ata appeared as the state defense.
