A so-called NGO has disappeared with over Tk 1 crore generated from nearly 200 depositors in Ullapara and Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj and Sherpur upazila of Bogura district.

The incident became public on Sunday, when some clients found lock on the door of its office ‘Soudibangla Investment Foundation’ at Hatikumrul area under Solongga thana in the district.

Victims complained that, a few number of people led by Harun or Rashid Badsha and Saidul Islam opened branches of the so-called NGO ‘Soudibangla Investment Foundation’ at different places in Solongga, Ullapara and Raiganj upazila of Sirajganj district and Sherpur upazila of Bogura district several months ago.

Victims sources said, the fraudulent syndicate also set up an office at a rented building in Hatikumrul area. Later, the fraudulent group members started money collection from several people alluring to give them big sum of loans and various other facilities. Thus, they amassed over Tk 1 crore within a short time. Later, they went hiding along with the money.

Humayun Kabir, Officer in Charge of Solongga police station said, “Police visited the office after getting the information. But no one was found there during the visit.”

“Action would be taken, if someone submits complaint in this regard,” he added.
