Last year, Siam Ahmed surprised everyone when he revealed his first look for M Raahim’s directorial film “Jongli”. Sporting a long beard and a scar etched across his lips, his character’s eyes radiated intense ferocity. Fans were quick to compare his look to actors from South Indian cinema.

The film, which was released this Eid, is being praised by audiences for its compelling storytelling. During the movie’s promotional campaign, one of the producers, Zahid Hasan Abhi—founder and CEO of Tiger Media—revealed to the media that the Malayalam and Telugu industries had shown interest in acquiring the remake rights for “Jongli”.

When we reached out to Mukhtar Ibn Rafique, another producer of the film, he confirmed that discussions were ongoing but still in the early stages.

“I didn’t intend to reveal this earlier,” Rafique said. “But since Abhi bhai has already mentioned it, I suppose it’s okay to talk about it now. Our post-production was done in Kolkata by a renowned editor. People from various regional industries—Malayalam, Tamil, and others—often go there to edit their films. When they saw our poster and teaser, they were surprised and curious about where this film was being made.”

He continued, “We told them it wasn’t an Indian production but a Bangladeshi film. They were genuinely impressed, saying the look and feel were very different—nothing like what they expected from Bangladesh. Once they heard the rough version of the story, they expressed serious interest. That said, the process is still ongoing and may take one to two weeks to finalise. Since nothing has been officially signed yet, I’d say it’s not final. We’ve already discussed the financial aspects, and we’re hopeful everything will go smoothly. We really want this to happen.”

“Jongli” stars Siam Ahmed and Bubly in lead roles, alongside Prarthana Fardin Dighi, Dilara Zaman, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Rashed Mamun Apu in pivotal roles.
