Manikganj Correspondent:
A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee allegedly committed suicide on Saturday apparently after failing to achieve GPA-5 in the examination in Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj district.
Tanha Muntaz Prova, 16, daughter of Md Muntaz Uddin, head teacher of Nali Baroria Krishna Chandra High School, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence in Dhutarabari area of the upazila.
According to family sources, Tanha appeared in this year’s SSC examination from the science group at the same school and obtained a GPA of 4.94.
Tanha who used to secure first position in class became upset after the July10 SSC results .
Assistant teacher (Agricultural Studies) Rajib Uddin said Tanha used to be part of a close-knit group of six friends.
“All of them, except Tanha, secured A+ grade. The frustration from that might have led to this incident,” he added.
Her family said Tanha had been staying at her sister’s house in Dhaka before the results were published.
After the results came out, her father brought her home and she had been showing signs of depression over not achieving GPA-5.
Shibalaya Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain said it appeared to be a case of suicide.
An unnatural death case was filed and she was buried without an autopsy upon the family’s request, he said.
