Police officer Sheikh Afzalul Haque, a state approver, sough apology to the International Crimes Tribunal-2 and families of six martyrs, whose bodies were burnt in Ashulia during the July uprising.
For not being able to do anything for the six martyrs, he sought the apology after giving statement.
On Wednesday (November 19), Afzalul, 23rd witness of the case, gave his statement against 16 accused, including former lawmaker Saiful Islam, in a case filed for burning six bodies in Ashulia last year.
A two-member tribunal-2, led by District and Sessions Judge Md Manzurul Basid, recorded the statement.
He described the whole incident of that day (August 5 last year). Though he was not present during the bodies were burnt, knew that the bodies were burnt down when he came to the police station on August 15 to submit his issued weapons. He informed the tribunal that the then OC Sayed and ASI Bishwajit set the bodies on fire pouring petrol.
At last, he sought apology.
On August 5, 2024, six youths lost their lives in police firing in Ashulia. Their bodies were then placed in a police van and set on fire. During the brutal incident, one of them was still alive. However, he was not spared either. Petrol was poured over him, and he was burned alive.
Following the incident, on September 11, a case was filed with the International Crimes Tribunal, bringing charges of crimes against humanity.
