The government has taken a firm stance against any attempts to incite unrest or disrupt law and order situation following the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the state counsel informed the High Court on Thursday.

Presenting updates on the situation, Additional Attorney General Barrister Aneek R Haque and Deputy Attorney General Md Asad Uddin told the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury that the matter is now a top priority for the government.

“Three cases have already been filed in connection with the incidents of lawyer Alif’s murder and unrest in Chattogram. So far, 33 individuals have been arrested, and six suspects have been identified,” the state counsels informed the court.

They assured the court that law enforcement agencies are actively working to prevent any disorder stemming from this issue.

The High Court had sought progress updates after lawyer Monir Uddin filed a petition on 27 November, citing media reports, to ban ISKCON and impose Section 144 in three districts.

During today’s hearing, Monir Uddin argued, “This is the time to ban ISKCON.”

In response, the court stated, “The government will certainly look into the matter.”
