Staff Correspondent:
Coordinators of the Students against Discrimination have announced plans to form a new student organization following a two-day public opinion survey.
At a press conference in front of Dhaka University’s Madhur Canteen this afternoon (17 February), the coordinators stated that the decision on the organisation’s formation will be based on an online and offline survey conducted across colleges and universities nationwide, including Dhaka University.
Among those present were coordinators Abdul Kader, Abu Baker Majumder, Hasib Al Islam, and others.
Addressing the media, Abu Baker Majumder said the name and launch date of the organisation have not yet been finalised and will be determined through the survey process.
He further clarified that the new organisation will remain independent of partisan student politics, operating under the slogan “Student first, Bangladesh first.”
Regarding the initiative, Students against Discrimination spokesperson Umama Fatima declined to comment.
“A new approach to student politics is essential for a fresh political settlement. We welcome this emerging trend of independent student politics, free from external influences. Those who choose to join the new student organisation will step down from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement,” coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud told reporters.
He further said, “Students against Discrimination will continue to function as a pressure group, dedicated to nation-building while upholding the spirit of July.”
