Students of Government Titumir College in Dhaka hung a banner reading “Titumir University” at the entrance gate of the college.
The students took this step to demand the transformation of the college into a full-fledged university on Tuesday morning.
For a long time, students of Titumir College have been protesting to turn the institution into a university. This time, they took matters into their own hands and hung a banner reading “Titumir University” at the college gate.
Earlier in the morning, the students held a protest rally on the college campus. Later, they marched through the Mohakhali-Amtoli road and returned to the main gate, where they displayed banners both inside and outside, covering the original nameplate with one reading “Titumir University.”
Accusing the Ministry of Education of double standards, the students said the education ministry has proposed creating university-equivalent institutions for the seven colleges, which the students at Titumir College reject.
If our demands are not met soon, the next steps of our movement will be announced on Thursday, they added.
Previously, on November 18, students of Titumir College staged a protest rally from the campus to the Mohakhali railway crossing area, blocking roads and railways until 4pm.
Afterward, the protesting students marched back toward the college campus.
