Ashraful Islam Joy:
Activists and leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in collaboration with the general students brought out a procession and staged sit-in programme in Sirajganj town protesting to the ‘dramatic acts’ of the Ministry of Education in the name of reforming the education system.
The procession that started from Boropool in the town marched the main streets including Mujib Road and Goshala Road and ended near the District Education Office.
The programmes were conducted under the leadership of Salman Joarder, also former coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. Incumbent coordinators Muntasir Hasan Mehedi, Zubair Al Islam Sujan, Mushfiq Swad, Labanya Choya, HSC candidates of 2025 and other general students were also took part in the programmes.
The speakers said, the Education Ministry’s irresponsible behavior regarding the injured and dead in the plane crash at Dhaka’s Milestone School and College and late night decision of postponing HSC-2025 examination are totally injustice. They demanded the resignation of the education advisor and called for an impartial investigation into the plane crash that claimed at least 31 lives.
At the same time, the speakers also said that, how members of the Bangladesh Army raised their hands on a teacher or a student? It is unimaginable in a democratic state system. An unconditional apology should be sought from the nation for this incident.
Among the demands they raised are: (I) disclosure of the correct names and information of the deceased, (II) disclosure of an accurate list of the injured, (III) seeking an unconditional apology in front of public for the incident of army members ‘raising hands’ on teachers.
