Dhaka Metropolitan Court today issued summons against the cricketer and former MP (Member of Parliament, lawmaker) Shakib Al Hasan, including four others, in the IFIC Bank cheque dishonour case.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Mahbubul Haque of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court passed the order on Wednesday (December 18) afternoon.
Apart from Shakib, the other accused in the case are – Gazi Sahgir Hossain, Imdadul Haque and Maleka Begum.
According to the case documents, the case of cheque dishonour of Tk 4,14,57,000 against Shakib and four other accused was filed on December 15. The accused have been asked to appear before the court on January 18.
The order has called Shakib and the other accused to appear before the court. The court has also expressed the possibility of issuing arrest warrants against the accused who have previously disobeyed the order.
Shakib Al Hasan has also recently been in the news for being accused in a murder case. Shakib Al Hasan, currently staying in the United States, has also been accused in this case filed in connection with the July Uprising.
Besides, there are also allegations of stock market manipulation against Shakib Al Hasan, for which additional fines should have been imposed, said Salehuddin Ahmed, the financial adviser of the Interim Government.
Shakib Al Hasan, who has retired from Test and T20 cricket, is still playing ODI cricket and had expressed his desire to continue playing ODI cricket until the Champions Trophy. However, in the current situation, he has been dropped from the team for the only ODI series against West Indies before the Champions Trophy.
