Supreme Court warns judges against using social media

The Supreme Court has directed the judges of the lower courts not to share any unnecessary status or comments on social media which goes against service discipline.

The Supreme Court administration issued a circular in this regard yesterday (September 10).

According to the circular issued by the Supreme Court, recently it has been observed that some judicial officers are not following the instructions given on 22 September 2019 and 16 April 2023 regarding the use of social media.

Besides, it has come to the notice of the Court that some judicial officers are using social media during judicial working hours and some judicial officers are making various adverse comments about their appointing and controlling authorities through social media, which is against the service discipline and rules.

In this situation, the chief justice has ordered the judicial officers to strictly follow the instructions given in 2019 and 2023 regarding the use of social media. Besides, he has given strict instructions not to share any unnecessary status, or comments against the job discipline on social media under any circumstances.

The use of social media by judicial officers must be consistent with the prevailing laws and regulations of the country.

And disobeying the instructions will be treated as misconduct. In this case, Bangladesh Judicial Service (Discipline) Rules, 2017 as well as other existing laws and regulations will be applicable.
