TDS Report:

A suspect thief was beaten to death by a mob in Chakmoktargati village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila early on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Sanwar Hossain Sanu, 50, son of late Badulla Mian of Alampur village in the same upazila.

Mokhlesur Rahman, Officer in Charge (OC) of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station said, “Locals nabbed him in a paddy field of Chakmoktargati area, when he tried to flee by swimming the Fuljor River to avert public detention. Then, some people brutally beat him to death terming as a suspect thief of cow or auto-rickshaw alleging for going to the house of one Hasan Ali in Nizamgati village at mid night.”

The OC said, the body of the victim was recovered and sent to morgue for autopsy. He was accused of three cases including two for dacoity.

“Legal action would be taken, if we get written complaint from any of the victim’s relatives,” he added.
