Bangladesh left-arm spinner Taijul Islam reached a significant career milestone on Thursday, becoming only the third Bangladeshi bowler to take 500 wickets in First-Class cricket at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The 33-year-old achieved the feat during Ireland’s second innings of the ongoing first Test, when he dismissed Harry Tector to complete the landmark. Taijul had started the match needing three wickets to get there, having already taken two in Ireland’s first innings, where he finished with figures of 2 for 78 from 22 overs, including six maidens.
With this achievement, Taijul joins an elite group of Bangladeshi bowlers — Abdur Razzak, who leads the tally with 634 wickets, and Enamul Haque Jr, who has 513.
