The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed former Australia speedster Shaun Tait as the new fast bowling coach of the national team, replacing outgoing coach Andre Adams.

Tait, 42, will join the team later this month on a contract running until November 2027.

A key figure in Australia’s 2007 World Cup-winning squad, Tait played 59 international matches and is widely regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the history of the game.

He brings a rich coaching résumé to the role, having previously worked with the national sides of Pakistan, West Indies (Test team), and Afghanistan. His experience also spans several top franchise leagues including the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), Lankan Premier League (LPL), and English county cricket. Most recently, he served as head coach of the Chittagong Kings in the BPL, a team he also represented as a player during the 2012–13 season.

Speaking on his appointment, Tait said: “It’s a good time to be involved with the Bangladesh cricket team right now, a bit of a new era if you like. It’s been spoken about many times recently—the young talent with the fast bowlers—which is great. This is international cricket, not a development team, and everyone expects the talent to bring results, which is very much my focus with the fast bowling group and most importantly, getting more wins for the team.

“To have the opportunity to work with Phil Simmons is equally as exciting and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead.”

Tait’s arrival coincides with the departure of former New Zealand pacer Andre Adams, who had joined the Bangladesh set-up in March 2024. The BCB confirmed that the two parties had mutually agreed to end his contract.
