BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman may propose holding the next national election in February next year during his Friday meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, reports a media outlet quoting BNP leaders.

BNP has long been pressing for polls in December this year. However, in his address to the nation on 6 June, Chief Adviser Yunus announced that the election would be held in the first half of April 2025.

Following the announcement, BNP strongly opposed the proposed April timeline and reiterated its demand for a December election.

“In the meeting, Tarique Rahman will clearly explain why April is not a suitable time for the elections and why December would be more appropriate. But if the Chief Adviser is willing to consider February as a compromise, there might be room for flexibility,” a senior BNP leader seeking anonymity.

The much-anticipated Yunus–Tarique meeting is scheduled to take place at the Dorchester Hotel in London on Friday (13 June), and is expected to be a one-to-one discussion between 9:00 am and 11:00 am (local time).
