The tribunal has ordered to withdrawal of the arrest warrants of BNP acting chairman Tariq Rahman and other absconding accused in the August 20 grenade attack case.

Judge Rafiqul Islam of Dhaka’s Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 issued the order on Monday in response to the state’s application.

Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain overturned the verdict of the trial court on December 1 in the case of the grenade attack at an Awami League anti-terrorism rally 20 years ago on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka and acquitted all the accused in the case.

Abdur Rashid Mollah, special public prosecutor of the tribunal concerned, said, “Several accused including Tarique Rahman who were acquitted in the case were absconding. In the verdict, the court ordered the withdrawal of the previous arrest warrant against them. “When the High Court’s order reached the trial court, we, the state, applied for the withdrawal of the arrest warrants against Tarique Rahman and others. According to that application, the court ordered the withdrawal of the warrants.”
