A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day remand for Mashiur Rahman, the former deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch (Lalbagh Division) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, in connection with the killing of teenager Abdul Motalib during the uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shakila Sumu Chowdhury on Thursday passed the order after the investigation officer, Inspector Nazrul Islam, produced him before the court with a ten-day remand plea.

Abdul Motalib was shot and killed during an anti-discrimination student movement in the Dhanmondi Thana area of Dhaka on August 4.

His father, Abdul Motin, filed a murder case with Dhanmondi Police Station on August 26 against 176 individuals, including Mashiur, along with an additional 250-300 unnamed people also accused in the case.

Earlier, on September 19, the Detective Branch of the DMP detained Mashiur in connection with the killing of Abdul Wadud, a trader in the New Market area of the capital. He was placed on a seven-day remand by a court on September 20 in that case.
