UNB, Dhaka:
An 18-year-old boy has reportedly been killed during a clash between quota-reform protesters and riot police in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area, hospital sources said on Thursday.
Official confirmation of the death was not immediately available.
The victim has been identified as a Siam, from Charfashion of Bhola who resided in Matuail, Jatrabari, and worked at a battery shop in Gulistan.
According to DMCH sources, Siam was brought to the hospital unconscious by his cousin, Russell, around 12:15 AM. Believing Siam to be dead, Russell took him away in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw. Multiple pellet wounds were found on Siam’s neck and other parts of his body.
The clashes between the protesters and the police continued from 6:30 PM into the night. To control the situation, police used tear gas and rubber bullets. Six individuals, including Siam, were injured by pellets during the incident. None of them were protesters but bystanders, with Siam’s condition being the most critical. Later, he died on way to hospital.
