Lawyers have boycotted the court demanding the removal of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Asaduzzaman Noor for keeping a member of the Dhaka Bar Association under lock-up for two hours. Judge Asaduzzaman Nur has been sent on a two-day leave in the face of their demands.
At 10:30 am on Wednesday (December 23), lawyers chanted slogans in front of the gate of the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court demanding his removal . The lawyers then left the main gate at around 12:30 pm on the assurance of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zulfiqar Hayat.
Lawyers claim that Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Asaduzzaman Noor has been treating lawyers badly for a long time. They said that he remained in the court premises of Dhaka under the shelter of some invisible force.
Iqbal Hossain, president of the Dhaka Bar Association, said an unfortunate incident was happening on Tuesday (December 22nd). A lawyer has been disrespected by Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor. The lawyer informed the Dhaka Bar Association in writing. In this context, today the CMM took a stand at the main gate demanding the removal of Asaduzzaman Noor. Then we discussed the matter with CMM Zulfiqar Haider. He told us that he (Asaduzzaman Noor) has been sent on a two-day leave for the time being.
He further said, “We have informed the ministry about the matter immediately. The ministry will decide on his transfer. Then we moved away from the main gate. Now discussions are going on about the withdrawal of Asaduzzaman Noor.
Jasim Uddin, former general secretary of the association, said, “On Tuesday, a lawyer was detained by Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor police for two hours. We have taken a stand before the CMM court demanding his removal so that no magistrate can deal with the lawyer in such a manner.
The victim’s lawyer Mohammad Rubel said, ‘Yesterday I went to Asaduzzaman Noor’s court to hear a case. I would like to know the time when the court will go there. Then he said, the court will rise at 10:30. But I want to know the matter from the presenter as the judge did not get up even at 11 o’clock. When the court proceedings started later, the judge did not hear my case and asked me to come later. He later locked me up for two hours and said that he would revoke my certificate and tell all the magistrates not to hear my case. I feel extremely humiliated and demand a fair trial. (Source: Online)
