Faruque is currently heading several committees of the board as he failed to form a standing committee despite running the board as its president for the last 90 days.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Faruque Ahmed said on Wednesday that if he continues to work the way he is doing at the moment, he may soon burn out.

Faruque is currently heading several committees of the board as he failed to form a standing committee despite running the board as its president for the last 90 days.

Faruque replaced Nazmul Hossain as board president after being elected on 21 August as several board directors of the Nazmul-led panel including the former board boss fled away from the country following the student movement that forced former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to step down from her post on 5 August.

“Yes, that (no standing committee) is definitely due to the lack of people, seriously,” Faruque told Daily Sun when his attention was drawn to why there are no standing committees despite taking the reign three months back.

“But time has come now that I probably have to do it within a week or 10 days. We have to have at least 15 committees, probably with a member and a vice chairman, or a chairman, maybe forming with a member councilor. Even a three-four member committee because the way I’m working I might be burnt out,” he said.

“I have plans to form committees within the next coming week,” he added.

“You see, I have to work eight to nine hours every day because there are not many committees who will make their own decisions. I have to make every decision. That’s why I think standing committees are needed,” he said.

“There are four-five chairmen of different committees existing. Digital, facilities, grounds, Tigers, logistics – these have committees. Some very important parts – cricket operations, marketing, finance, tender and purchase (they need committees and chairman) then I won’t be burnt out,” he further added.

Faruque said that he feels there are both capable and incapable employees in the board while adding that the former board did not give it a professional look.

“I would like to see some more employees working, but I’ve seen employees who are not capable enough. There are people, but not many capable people there,” said Faruque.

“Probably, everything was done by one person or surrounding a certain person before. So they didn’t even try to give it a professional look. I have so many other plans,” he said, adding that the only regret he has as the board president during the last three months is that he could not form the standing committees.

“If I could form the committees a bit earlier, maybe like a month, it would’ve been better,” he added

Faruque said that the last three months were very challenging but he enjoyed it as according to him everything is running smoothly.

“I would say that these three months were challenging in a way that not many people to work with, it’s such a big organisation. But I could complete the routine work which is a tough job, but I could finish it which is very important,” he concluded.
