Entertainment Desk:
Drama troupe “Theatre” will stage its much-acclaimed production “Nikhai” at National Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) Saturday .
Written and directed by Gazi Rakayet, the play “Nikhai” explores the romantic past of a man with an unnamed woman and ends with a surprising reunion–not of the kind that one would expect in real life. It gives the audience a glimpse of how social class disrupts relationships and several other social issues.
The story revolves around a dishevelled old man named Arafan Bhuiyan who lives at a river port. The story is that Arafan Bhuiyan is walking along the bank of a river. At the same time, a police inspector and his wife come to cross the river. There is no boatman in sight. They meet Arafan and soon start a conversation.
Arafan, feeling at ease in the presence of his new acquaintances, opens his heart up to them and reminisces about his younger days, including an unsuccessful affair he had with a woman. In a cinematic twist, it is revealed that the inspector’s wife is none other than the daughter of his beloved.
Featuring only three major and two minor characters, the play with its simple narrative technique and twists and turns kept the audience captivated.
Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, Prabir Dutt, Yousha, Touhidul Islam and Palash have played different roles in the play.
