Commuters suffer for want of care by the authorities concerned
Tarash Correspondent:
The bridge, which was constructed at a cost of Tk 32 lakh on the Binodpur-Sanduria canal in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district around five years ago under supervision of Disaster Management Department, has been laying ineffective due to lack of approach road.
As a result, commuters of the both sides suffer immensely as they can’t cross the bridge smoothly along with any vehicle like rickshaw, van, car or truck after loading goods.
Locals complained that, the money spent in the name of construction work is now going to waste just for want of approach road.
According to the sources, the 40 feet long bridge was constructed with the aim to develop road connectivity in which farmers of the five villages including Dhaptetulia, Sanduria, Binodpur and Kharkharia can carry their produced goods to local markets easily for selling, but the effort is still now going in vain.
Tarash upazila administration sources said, the bridge was constructed on the Binodpur-Sanduria canal in the FY 2018-19 under the Bridge-Culvert Construction Program of the Disaster Management Department at a cost of about Tk 32.40 lakh, though there was no appropriate road facility for the commuters. The bridge turned into unfit to use just after few days of the construction as the flood water washed away the soil from the both sides of the bridge during monsoon. In this situation, agitation is prevailing among the local people.
Arifur Rahman, Delbar Hossain, Raju Sarker, Abdul Mannan and many others told The Daily Sky that, “The Bridge is not coming to help due to lack of approach road. If the government takes step to build approach road for creating a road link, local commuters will get proper benefit. Otherwise, it will not come to help for the people.”
Moynul Haque, Chairman of Baruhas Union Parishad admitted about the poor condition of the bridge and its approach road and said, “Necessary steps would be taken shortly in order to make the bridge effective for the commuters.”
Md. Forhad Latib, Project Implementation Officer (PIO) of Tarash upazila said, “I am unaware about the bridge as I have come recently here. I shall take necessary action after visiting the site.”
Locals urged the authorities concerned to take immediate steps to construct approach road on the both sides of the bridge before onset of rainy season.
