Entertainment Desk:

Amid the controversy surrounding the ‘Alo Asbei’ WhatsApp group, popular actress Mousumi said that those fellow artists who have engaged in political activities undermining human values have tarnished their professional dignity.

The ‘Alo Asbei’ WhatsApp group, created by the former State Minister for Information Mohammad A Arafat, and actor Ferdous, actress Aruna Biswas, and actor Riaz, has come under heavy scrutiny after screenshots from the group leaked on social media.

The group was reportedly created to support the Awami League in its political battles against the anti-discrimination student movement.

The screenshots, which revealed that many pro-Awami League artists and journalists were part of the group, sparked widespread public criticism.

Several well-known figures have since come forward to clarify their involvement, with some even apologizing for their participation. Others have claimed they had no significant role in the group’s activities.

In an interview with a media outlet, Mousumi said, “Several artists, driven by political power, have degraded themselves by violating basic human values. Their actions have brought shame to our profession.”

Mousumi stated that no artist or individual can entirely avoid politics, but an artist’s participation in political activities should align with their personal values and principles.

“Whether an artist remains active or passive in politics depends on their psychological makeup and personal integrity,” she added.

Other notable members of the group include Sohana Saba, Jyotika Jyoti, Suborna Mustafa, Azizul Hakim, Swagata, Badrul Anam Saud, Shomi Kaiser, Tanvin Sweety, Ashna Habib Bhabna, Shamima Tusti, Jamshed Shamim, Urmila Srabonti Kar, Saju Khadem, Hridi Haq, Dipanwita Martin, Zayed Khan, Liakat Ali Lucky, Nona Afroz, Rokeya Prachy, Raunak Hasan, Ahsanul Haque Minu, director Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, and S A Haque Alik, among others.
