Sports Desk:
Bangladeshi cricket fan Tiger Robi was rushed to the hospital on Friday after allegedly being hit in the lower abdomen by local spectators at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, India.
Sources said that the Indian fans hurled verbal abuse at Robi with unspeakable language from the start of the Test match in Kanpur. At one point, he moved to a corner of the gallery to continue watching the game. After the first session, he was assaulted when he left the gallery, sustaining serious injuries from the attack and losing consciousness due to a punch.
“They hit me on my back and lower abdomen, and I couldn’t breathe,” Robi told Sportstar as security personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment.
However, the police at the venue denied such allegations. “One of our officers found him gasping for breath near the C block entrance, and he was struggling to speak. It seems like a case of dehydration, but we will wait for the doctors’ advice,” a police source said.
During the first day of the second Test between India and Bangladesh, Robi was seen waving the national flag and chanting slogans from the C block balcony. However, he allegedly got into a confrontation with other spectators during the first session before security personnel intervened.
Meanwhile, during the lunch period, Robi claimed he had been beaten by a few local spectators.
Indian police said they would verify the CCTV footage and investigate the allegations.
