Bangladesh women’s cricket team conceded the three-match Twenty20 international series against the West Indies after losing Wednesday’s second and penultimate game by 106 runs at Basseterre in Saint Kitts.

The Tigresses had also won the toss in the first clash and posted a fighting total, a target which however, proved to be inadequate for a strong Windies batting line-up who won by eight wickets.

This time visiting captain Nigar Sultana Joty invited the home team to take first guard, and the Caribbean side with their firepower racked up 201/6, with hefty contributions from opener Qiana Joseph (63 off 36) and No 4 batter Deandra Dottin (49 off 20).

Fahima Khatun (3/38), Rabeya Khatun (2/26) and Shorna Akter (1/26) were among the wickets for the tourists.

In pursuit of a series-saving win, the visitors did not put up any semblance of a fight, managing 95/9, with Sharmin Akter scoring the highest 22.

Cherry-Ann Fraser (2/15), Afy Fletcher (2/21) and captain Hayley Matthews (2/6) shared the wickets around as Bangladesh lost their batters at regular intervals.

The women in red and green will now look to salvage some pride in the third and final match at the same venue Saturday.

Bangladesh earlier lost the three-game One Day International series 2-1 to miss out on direct qualification to the Cricket World Cup, and landing a place instead in the six-team qualifiers for the two remaining spots.
