Tigresses whitewash Ireland in ODIs

After the brilliant performance from the bowlers, excellent batting from Sharmin Akhter Supta and Farzana Haque helped the Bangladesh women’s cricket team to beat the Ireland Women’s team by 7 wickets. As a result of this victory, the red-green team whitewashed the Irish by 3-0 in the ODI series.

After winning the toss at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla Stadium on Monday, the visitors went into bat and scored 185 runs for 10 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, the Tigresses reached the port of victory losing 3 wickets in 37.3 overs.

Murshida Khatun got out in the beginning of the easy target. She fell victim to Orla Prendergast with 8 runs off 16 balls. Sharmin Akhtar Supta and Farzana Haque made a record partnership of 143 runs for the second wicket stand for Bangladesh.

Sharmin Akhtar Supta scored her second half-century in the series. Earlier, she played an innings of 96 runs off 89 balls in the first ODI. She played 58 balls to score his half-century. This time, however, she did not get the century but played an excellent innings of 72 off 88 balls with 11 fours before being caught by Freya Sargent off Aimee Maguire.

Opener Farzana, who scored a half-century, returned with a personal 61 off 99 balls with 6 fours caught behind the wicket by Maguire. Captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti (18) and Sobhana Mostari (7) left the field after confirming victory for the Tigresses.

Earlier, Bangladesh Women’s team wrapped Ireland innings for 185 in the third and final ODI at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

Electing to bat first, Ireland rode on skipper Gaby Lewis’s 52 to compile a moderate total. Orla Prendergast made 27 while Amy Hunter added 23.

Fahima Khatun was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh with 3-43 while Sultana Khatun and Nahida Akter took two wickets apiece.

This victory put the Bangladesh team in a favourable position for a direct qualification to the ICC World Cup.
