The government has announced a cash reward of up to Tk1 lakh for individuals who provide reliable information on illegal fuel hoarding and smuggling.

The initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, aims to curb malpractice in the country’s fuel supply chain.

A senior official of the department said: “Some unscrupulous actors are hoarding and smuggling fuel amid rising demand and limited supply. Those who provide verified information to the authorities will be duly rewarded and legal action will be taken against the offenders.”

The move is part of broader measures to ensure steady and equitable fuel distribution across the country.

Citizens with credible information are urged to report it to local administration offices, district commissioners, or upazila executive officers. The identity of informants will remain confidential, officials added.

Experts say the reward scheme could play a significant role in curbing illegal fuel activities, provided that accurate and reliable information reaches the authorities.
