After nine months of suspension, tourist ship on the Cox’s Bazar to St Martin route resumed movement.
‘MV Baro Awlia’, carrying 620 passengers, left Cox’s Bazar’s BIWTA ghat of Nuniarchharar at 10AM on Sunday, also the first day of service resumption.
Hossain Islam Bahadur, general secretary of Sea-Cruise Operators Owners Association of Bangladesh (SQUAB), confirmed this.
“A tourist ship started its journey for St Martin today for first time after nine months of suspension. We observed everything,” said Cox’s Bazar Sadar upazila UNO Nilufa Yasmin Chowdhury.
Every year, the government allows ships to sail on the Teknaf-St Martin and Cox’s Bazar-St Martin routes for six months from October to March. The remaining six months are closed due to rough weather.
