Joypurhat Correspondent:

A potato trader was killed in a lightning strike on Thursday morning (August 21) in Kalai upazila of Joypurhat.

The incident happened in a crop field at Panchgram Beltoli Para village under Punat union of the upazila.

The victim was Md. Abdul Mannan, 58, of that village.

Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zahid Hossain confirmed the incident.

Mannan worked as a potato trader and was involved in buying and selling potatoes at various cold storage facilities in the area.

According to locals and family members, intermittent rain had been falling since early morning. As usual, Mannan went to field to cut grass for his several dairy cows. While working in the field, he was suddenly struck by lightning and severely injured. Neighbors and family rushed to the field and found him lifeless.

They attempted to take him to Kalai Upazila Health Complex, but he died on the way. His family then took his body back home.
