As people leave Dhaka ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, the flow of homebound traffic increased on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway on Wednesday, although authorities reported no congestion as yet.

According to the Jamuna Bridge authorities, a total of 33,564 vehicles crossed the bridge between 12am on Monday and 12am on Tuesday, generating a total toll revenue of Tk28,663,009.

Of these, 17,657 vehicles were headed towards northern Bangladesh, for which Tk14,482,850 was collected in tolls, while 15,907 vehicles were Dhaka-bound, generating tolls amounting to Tk14,181,050, the authorities said.

Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, executive engineer at the Jamuna Bridge site office of the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, said that during the Eid rush, a total of 18 toll booths—nine on each side—are being used to facilitate vehicle crossings.

Of these, two booths on each side have been designated exclusively for motorcycles, Ahsanul said.

Additionally, the stretch of highway from Elenga to the bridge is continuously monitored through CCTV cameras, he added.
