A youth, who hailed from about 300 km away in Thakurgaon district, committed suicide at the house of his inamorata (girlfriend) in Chowbari village of Kamarkhanda upazila in Sirajganj district due to refusal to marry him.

The youth was identified as Golam Ferdaus Durlov, 24, son of Abdur Rahman Master of Potilabhasa village in Baliadangi thana of Thakurgaon district.

Abdul Latif, Officer in Charge of Kamarkhanda PS said, a love affair was developed between Durlov and daughter of a van driver in Chowbari village after introduction through social media. At one stage of their affair, the girl’s parent fixed her marriage to elsewhere. Hearing the news of her marriage settlement, Durlov came to her house on Monday and consumed poison at night while he was refused by the girl’s family.

He was taken to Shaheed M Monsur Ali Medical College and Hospital, where on duty doctors declared him dead.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the same hospital morgue for autopsy. No case has yet been lodged by the victim’s family in this connection. But, an unnatural death case was lodged with the respective police station regarding this matter.
