A Dhaka court on Sunday imposed a travel ban on former lawmaker for Gazipur-3 constituency Mohammad Iqbal Hossain Sabuj, his wife Nigar Sultana Jhuma and their son Mohammad Shakhawat, amid an ongoing investigation into corruption allegations.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order following a petition by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Saidul Islam.
The ACC sought the ban citing concerns that the accused might flee the country to evade investigation.
According to the ACC, Iqbal Hossain is under probe for amassing wealth beyond known sources of income. Despite being summoned, neither he nor his family members appeared to provide statements. The commission argued that the travel restriction is necessary to ensure an unhindered investigation.
The ACC’s Public Relations Officer, Akhtarul Islam, confirmed the court order.
