Nephew gets death

A court in Sirajganj on Sunday sentenced a man to death for killing of his maternal uncle, aunt and cousin centering a dispute over money transaction.
The court also fined him Tk 1 lakh, in default, he will have to suffer six more month in Jail.
Judge Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman of Sirajganj Additional Sessions and District Judge Court-3 issued the order at around 3:00 pm on Sunday. The court’s stenographer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the matter to the media.
Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Hamidul Islam Dulal of the court said that, the accused has been absconding since securing bail on December 9, 2024 from the High Court. The sentence will be implemented after his arrest.
The convicted is Rajib Kumar Bhowmik, 36, son of late Bishwanath Bhowmik of Telipara village in Ullapara upazila of the district.
According to the case, on January 27, 2024, due to a dispute over money transactions, the convicted Rajib strangled to death Bikash Sarkar, 45, a resident of Barwari Bottola in Tarash Municipality area of the district, his wife Swarna Rani Sarkar, 40, and their daughter Parmita Sarkar Tushi, 15, a student of class-X of Tarash Government Girls High School. Rajib is the nephew of the victim Bikash Sarkar.
Shri Sukamal Chandra Saha, brother of Swarna Rani Sarkar, who died in this incident, filed a case with Tarash Police Station accusing unknown persons.
Later, based on the clues of the conversation between uncle Bikash and his nephew found on the mobile phone, Sirajganj DB Police arrested Rajib.
During interrogation, he gave a confessional statement. After completion of investigation, police submitted charge sheet to the court against him.
The court sentenced Rajib to death after the testimony.
