Truck-autorickshaw collision leaves 2 dead in Jhenaidah

Two people were killed and five others injured in a collision between a truck and an autorickshaw in Jhenaidah’s Maheshpur upazila this morning.

The accident took place on the Maheshpur-Khalishpur road in the Valaipur area of the upazila on Tuesday morning. The deceased are Kashem Mia (60), son of Gani Hajir of Pantapara village of Maheshpur upazila, and Alamgir Malita (30), son of Rima Malita of Ghugri village.

Locals said that in the morning some passengers were going to Khalishpur from Maheshpur in an auto rickshaw. On reaching the Valaipur area, the auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a sand-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. Kashem Mia and Alamgir Hossain were killed on the spot. Five others were injured. They were rescued and taken to Maheshpur Upazila Health Complex and two were referred to Jessore.

Maheshpur police station OC Mahabbur Rahman confirmed this and said that the injured people in the accident have been admitted to the hospital. Besides, two bodies have been recovered. The body will be sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem.
