TDS Desk:
Former UK City minister Tulip Siddiq, the niece of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina, is suspected of corruption, says Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Chairman Md Abdul Momen on Monday (June 16) said they found evidence against her, including accepting a flat as a bribe. Irregularities were also found related to a fish farm and income tax issues.
Tulip allegedly accepted a flat as a bribe from Eastern Housing Limited. ACC has summoned her to appear on June 22 at 10am to give her statement regarding the matter.
The ACC sent the summons notice to five residential addresses in Mohammadpur’s Janata Housing Society, Dhanmondi Residential Area, and Gulshan-1 and -2 on Sunday (June 15).
The notice was also sent through Gulshan and Dhanmondi police stations.
On May 14, ACC’s Deputy Assistant Director Md Abdullah Al Mamun, the investigating officer, issued a summons letter to Tulip for questioning. In separate notices, two other accused in the same case—former RAJUK Assistant Legal Adviser Shah Khasruzzaman and Sardar Mosharraf Hossain—were also summoned. However, neither Tulip nor the others responded to the ACC’s call.
