Two Bangladeshi films win awards at Haryana Int’l Film Fest

Two Bangladeshi short films “A Letter of Postmaster” and “Joy Bangla” have won awards at the Haryana International Film Festival 2024. The 7th edition of the prestigious film festival was run from 7-11 August at the state of Haryana in North India.

Supin Barman-directed “A Letter of Postmaster” and Shayla Rahman Tithi’s “Joy Bangla” featured in the fest from Bangladesh. The films received the award in the festival’s competitive film categories.

“A Letter of Postmaster” was awarded the Best International Short Film on 11 August during a ceremony at Kurukshetra University’s auditorium. “Joy Bangla” was awarded in the Best International Director category.

Barman’s “A Letter of Postmaster” is a fictional story that revolves around Ratan, the central character of poet Rabindranath Tagore’s short story “Postmaster”. Actress Rhea Mohant played the role of Ratan. The film also stars Bidhan Roy, Sadekur Rahman Sujan, Niva Rani Sarkar, Shahadat Hossain, Mizanur Rahman, and Utpal Dutta. Previously the film participated at the Dhaka International Film Festival and the Nepal International Film Festival.

On the other hand, Tithi’s “Joy Bangla”, is based on a true story of the Liberation War of Bangladesh. The film features noted actors Tariq Anam Khan, Farzana Chumki, and others. The movie has already been screened at the Dhaka International Film Festival, the Bogra International Film Festival, and the Nepal International Film Festival.
