Leaders of a Tabligh Jamaat faction have threatened the interim government with potential unrest if Maulana Saad Kandhlawi from Delhi and his followers are permitted entry to Bangladesh for the Bishwa Ijtema.

Speaking at a grand rally in Suhrawardy Udyan on Tuesday (November 5), Maulana Azizul Haque Islamabadi, central joint secretary general of the Bangladesh Nezam-e-Islam Party, accused Maulana Saad and his followers of plotting to create unrest around the Bishwa Ijtema. “We will never allow that to happen. We will thwart all their conspiracies at any cost,” he declared.

“I urge the interim government to focus on governing, and we will offer full support. But remember, many ulema have already sacrificed their lives during previous movements. We have endured suffering and oppression under the Awami government,” he said.

Maulana Abdul Hamid (Pir of Madhupur) emphasised that the government should implement the decisions arising from the grand rally.

“If the government fails to heed the suggestions from this gathering, the consequences will be severe,” he warned.

“We are willing to cooperate with the government, but they must also show support for the scholars. Otherwise, they may face the same fate as past administrations, being forced to flee the country,” added Abdul Hamid.
